My imaginary life.
I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world ~ Albert Einstein
A dozen things I would like in my imaginary life:
1. Children who would pick up their areas and stuff. My house would be clean and organized.
2. A Robot that can pick up themselves if they fall over. Also cook and clean just like Rosie the Robot on The Jetsons without the NY/NJ accent.
3. Car that would pick up the children. Insert a program disc and it is on it's way.
4. Cars that don't break down or need repairing.
5. My phone would stop ringing with solicitation calls for politics or services. There would be no messages that would need deleting if this were the case.
6. I would have a "hose down" room, completely tiled and filled with many shower heads (with various settings) to wash down either the children, the husband, the dogs, or myself. Sort of like an indoor car wash but only for people. It would be great for a baby, just put the high chair in there and turn it on "mist spray wash".
7.. Instead of teaching, become a clown/magician and then go to hospitals, nursing homes and entertain people on a whim.
8.. If I stayed in teaching, I would imagine my salary would be lots bigger than the peanuts I get after decades.
9. Become a children's picture book author and appear on BookTalk on C-Span. (This would also provide me with a little vacation.)
10. Win the lottery (50 million or more), keep a few million for myself, then with the rest, build my town a new school and provide scholarship money and donate to libraries.
11. Limit snow storms/blizzards/Nor'easters or move elsewhere where this does not occur.
12. Be able to twitch my nose like Samantha Stevens to get things done.
The reality -- becoming a children's book author or winning the lottery could come true.
I am just throwing those thoughts out in the universe to see what will happen.
Your thoughts are appreciated. Wish me luck.
I never worry about the future. It comes soon enough. ~ Albert Einstein

4. The grocery store is where I went Thursday night; it was not crowded.
5. Why does typing hurt so much?
6. All I can think of is the next project I will work on.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to cleaning and organizing, tomorrow my plans include reading and Sunday, I want to relax and refresh!

- What was the last book you read?
The Professor's Daughter by Joann Sfar and Emmanuel Guibert.
It is a graphic novel, the first one I have ever read.
I bought it on a glance and ended up with no money left over for the few groceries I had to buy. The decision was wretching but allowed me more time in the bookstore, a dangerous place for me! I absolutely loved it and laughed my head off. - What are you currently reading?
Rereading Gifts From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindberg
(read more about this book in my other posts) - What books do you want to read next?
Maybe another mystery with Miss Seeton or Miss Silver.

(mouse over picture for credits)
This is a picture of Cornelia Africana (in blue), remembered as the "perfect Roman woman, beautiful, and elegant as well as remarkable and clever."
She lived a long life considering the times she lived in. (b.190 BC d. 100 BC)
There are two stories about her and her virtuous manner. The first one was told to me long ago and the second one I read. Essentially they are similar but which one is true or maybe they both are, who knows but it is now legend.
1. The Romans were knocking door to door asking or demanding citizens hand over their precious metals and jewels for it was war time and citizens must sacrifice for the good of the cause. When Cornelia answered her door, the request was put upon her, she summoned and then brought forth her children stating to the soldiers "these are my jewels".
2. A splendidly dressed and bejewelled lady came to visit her one day.
While they were talking, the lady asked to see Cornelia's ornaments/jewels. She sent for her sons and when they appeared told the visiting lady, "These are my jewels and their virtues are my ornaments".
Cornelia remains honored today as a statue titled "These are my Jewels" at the Ohio Statehouse and there is a third similar version of the story there.
Many make the household but only one makes the home. -- James Russell Lowell
Youth fades, love droops, the leaves of friendship fall;
A mother's secret hope outlives them all. -- N.P. Willis
They say that man is mighty,
He governs land and sea,
He wields a mighty scepter
O'er lesser powers than he;
But mightier power and stronger
Man from his throne has hurled,
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world. -- W.R. Wallace
The instruction received at the mother's knee, and the paternal lessons, together with the pious and sweet souvenirs of the fireside, are never entirely effaced from the soul. -- Lamennais
The dignity, the grandeur, the tenderness, the everlasting and divine significance of motherhood. -- De Witt Tallmadge

I have decided to read Gift From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindberg again. (My review can be found here.)
I found a new copy at a yard sale yesterday so that is why I am rereading it. Basically, I like the message of a simple contented life with purpose theme.
I would recommend this book for anyone, especially as a gift for a high school or college graduation present.
For the most part, I like social parodies by E.F.Benson (Mapp and Lucia among others), Barbara Pym, Nancy Mitford, P.G.Wodehouse, Angela Thirkell, Miss Read and of course Jane Austen.

Those who didn't will be in disbelief and won't understand how very true it is!
1) You can name everyone you graduated with.
2) You know what 4-H means.
3) You went to parties at a pasture, barn, gravel pit, or in the middle of a dirt road. On Monday you could always tell who was at the party because of the scratches on their legs from running through the woods when the party was busted. (See #6.)
4) You used to'drag'Main .
5) You whispered the 'F' word and your parents knew within the hour.
6) You scheduled parties around the schedules of different police officers, because you knew which ones would bust you and which ones wouldn't.
7) You could never buy beer because all the store clerks knew how old you were (and if you were old enough, they'd tell your parents anyhow.) Besides, where would you get the money?
8) When you did find somebody old enough and brave enough to buy beer, you still had to go out into the country and drive on back roads to drink it.
9) You knew which section of the ditch you would find the beer your buyer dropped off.
10) It was cool to date somebody from the neighboring town.
11) The whole school went to the same party after graduation.
12) You didn't give directions by street names but rather by references. Turn by Nelson's house, go 2 blocks to Anderson 's, and it's four houses left of the track field.
13) The golf course had only 9 holes.
14) You couldn't help but date a friend's ex-boyfriend/girlfriend.
15) Your car stayed filthy because of the dirt roads, and you will never own a dark vehicle for this reason.
16) The town next to you was considered 'trashy' or 'snooty,' but was actually just like your town.
17) You referred to anyone with a house newer then 1955 as the 'rich' people.
18) The people in the 'big city' dressed funny, and then you picked up the trend 2 years later.
19) Anyone you wanted could be found at the local gas station or the dairybar.
20) You saw at least one friend a week driving a tractor through town or one of your friends driving a grain truck to school occasionally.
21) The gym teacher suggested you haul hay for the summer to get stronger.
22) Directions were given using THE stop light as a reference.
23) When you decided to walk somewhere for exercise, 5 people would pull over and ask if you wanted a ride.
24) Your teachers called you by your older siblings' names.
25) Your teachers remembered when they taught your parents.
26) You could charge at any local store or write checks without any ID.
27) There was no McDonalds.
28) The closest mall was over an hour away.
29) It was normal to see an old man riding through town on a riding lawn mower.
30) You took a leak in a cornfield.
31) Most people went by a nickname.
32) You laughed reading this because you know it is true, and you forward it to everyone who may have lived in a small town.

Appetizer What was your favorite cartoon when you were a child?
The Jetsons -- Astro was my favorite.
Soup Pretend you are about to get a new pet. Which animal would you pick, and what would you name it?
I would still get another Bichon Frise and name it "Coco Chanel".
Salad On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?
Depends, right now I say a 1 but depending on the occasion, maybe a 5 possibly an 8.
Main Course What kind of music do you listen to while you drive?
Soft Rock
Dessert When was the last time you bought a clock? And in which room did you put it?
Recently and it is in the livingroom.
OK a funny story from Christmas few years ago -- We have a Jr/Sr combo High School since we have so few students in our town. My daughter (grade 6 at the time) does pretty well getting up on her own but sometimes, we have to wake her. We were at a Thrift Shop and I spied this huge old fashioned alarm clock with the hammer that wavers and hits the two bells but it had modern mechanics for a couple of dollars. So I told my husband we would give it to her as a joke Christmas gift and put on the tag "Hope you can use this. From: Mrs. Smith", who was the principal. So she opens the big box up and sees what it is and laughs her head off at her crazy parents. It is in the livingroom and when it rings, it sounds like a fire alarm.

May 1st: Celebrate Mother Goose Day
|
|
Thursday, 01 May 08 - 12:02 AM (GMT -05:00) By J M L in Education |
|

Yes, it is Mother Goose Day, May 1st every year.
To celebrate -- read a few nursery rhymes to your favorite child.
One of the games I use to play with my fifth grade library classes was list ten nursery rhymes working together as a team. They would be put into groups of five or six students. I then asked them to list ten nursery rhymes on a paper. Usually out of six groups, only one group would have a complete and correct list. Pretty sad.
Nursery rhymes are very important for children to learn.
It helps them greatly with pre-reading skills.
So read a few to a special child or if you have your own children, select one and repeat it for a week. Then pick a new one each week.
