"Why Cozytown is the delightfulest place imaginable, 'though it does stand on the very edge of things, surrounded by a high, gray wall- that the name of this wall is "Facts" need not bother us, nor that to most people it is impassable. Those who know walk straight up to the wall and, taking four steps to the left of an iron ring which they will find without much trouble,  they knock sharply on a stone which says BELIEVE! Presto! Immediately a little gate appears and in they go to the town itself . . . "

"The Princess of Cozytown" Janet Laura Scott, Ruth Plumly Thompson 1922

Jane Austen Rules!

PBS Masterpiece Theatre presents Jane Austen's books to movies.
They average about 90 minutes.
So far, two have aired: Persuasion and Northanger Abbey.
Mansfield Park airs next so check your local listings.

I just love those costume dramas.

Anyways, I found this quiz, "Which piece of classical literature do you belong to?" on Sue's Life in an Urban Zoo blog, so fitting!
I hope she had a recent Happy Birthday also!

My result:

Pride and Prejudice You belong in Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. Though you view the world as generally good, you tend to see the flaws in others. You are overall quite realistic, but appreciate the romantic side of situations as well.

The Simple Dollar recommends . . .

I enjoy this blog The Simple Dollar very much.
A recent posting has the top 10 personal financial books to read with an extended list of other recommendations.

Being frugal, you can get them out of your library (free) or if they are that important to you, find them at a book/yard/garage sale (cheap), that is where I found some of the books on the list for myself then I donate them to my tiny town library.

Candy Freak

It is almost Halloween and I thought this would be appropriate for now or else you would have to wait till next Easter.  When I saw this book, I just laughed and said "I have got to read this!"

Candy Freak - A Journey Through the Chocolate Underbelly of America -- probably one of the best humor books I ever read and a topic I like -- candy or chocolate.  I could not put it down.  I was sad when I finished it.
Loved the ransom note/collage title, all letters taken from candy bar wrappers.
Author Steve Almond takes us through his addiction of candy in a most humorous way.  He also educates us on how the candy industry works, why all our favorite candies disappeared as he travelled around interviewing all the VIPs in the candy industry.

There were candies in the book I never heard of so it was our search and find project that lasted a few months.  This was when we would go out, find the candy or other candy (like imports) and sample our finds.  This was a fun and whimsical activity.

Now, Steve redid his site and he took away all the contributions by visitors who related their own candy stories to the cyberworld.  This was most unfortunate because, when the book ended, I could not get enough and this fulfilled my addiction.  Some of the stories are just so funny!
So I found the stories again from the web archives and you can read them.

Check out my recipe files (left sidebar folder) -- I have recipes for fudge, Cocoa Krispies Peanut Logs, Snickers Salad, Better than Sex Cake, Sex in a Pan, Kaluha Cake, McFlurries, Blizzards, and Frosties, Oreo Cheesecake or anything with Oreos and other sweet goodies.

I know you peeked so ---  What is your favorite candy or candy story?
